The Strategic Policy Planning Group is a division newly established
in 2001 to take a broad view of the needs and issues of rapidly changing
urban and regional communities, and to explore new directions.
In order to enhance IBS research from the viewpoint of the entire Research
Department, the Group is involved in a wide range of activities including:
the development of strategic themes, concepts and projects, project quality
control, human resources development through education and training,
dissemination of research results, support for research exchange activities
at home and abroad, and accepting trainees from other organizations.
As an approach to these activities, the Group provides interdisciplinary
assistance in order to support the development of research projects in
social issues. The Group also endeavors to return the results of IBS
activities to the community through the exchange of themes, concepts
