Transport Research Division

Transport Research Division studies forecasting methods based on travel behavior analyses and develops models for policy evaluation. It also conducts researches related with transport systems planning and policies for facility improvement contributed to the maintenance and development of regions from a viewpoint of transport and living environment improvement.
In particular, the Division is working at present on policy proposals that are targeting the practicality of every means of transport from the aspects of: how to quickly improve the regional transport environment, how to utilize the present stock of facilities efficiently, and how to make use of new technology. With transportation demand management (TDM) in mind, research is also being conducted into proposals for effective soft measures and facilities development measures, as well as using intelligent transport systems (ITS) technology for gathering new planning information and methods of developing ITS to help improve the transport environment.

  • Research on the effectiveness of information provision to travelers and related issues
  • Research on the effectiveness and issues in collecting transport data by ITS for the evaluation of policies
